 Club President Robert Garcia is the owner of Farmers Insurance - Robert Garcia Agency. The agency has been serving the Collin county area and Texas for 4 plus years now! He was born in Texas but moved to New Mexico through high school. Immediately out of high school he joined the US Army and Served for six and half years. He then briefly went back to Las Cruces, New Mexico where he met the love of his life Heather. They moved to the metroplex in 2006 with their first child Elijah born in 2007. In 2011 Katie was born and they moved to Allen, Tx. In 2013 Robert was ordained and installed first as the children’s pastor at River of Glory Church, then in 2018 as the Senior Associate Pastor. His passion for people and building relationships have led him to try and serve people as well as the community through church, business and friendships.

Lone Star P.E.T.S. is the combined efforts of ten Rotary International Districts.  We are “Rotary International” with over 1,195,224 members in 37,014 clubs who are committed to humanitarian service all over the world to promote literacy, save mothers and children, fight disease, provide clean water and sanitation, encourage economic sustainability, promote peace, and protect the environment. As People of Action, club members partner with other Rotary Clubs and non-profit organizations to seek solutions for lasting change. The signature global project launched in the early eighties is the Polio Plus campaign. The Rotary Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the World Health Organization have raised millions of dollars to vaccinate the world's children from the crippling effects of polio. We have reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent world-wide, immunizing more than 2 billion children across 122 countries. As of this writing, only Afghanistan and Pakistan have yet to be declared polio free. Thus, the "power of many" has made this feat happen. However, there is more work to be done. The Rotary Foundation will embark on an additional $50 million campaign this year to finish the job to eradicate polio forever!

 With the recent hurricane damage in Florida, Nova Scotia, Caribbean Islands and Puerto Rico, and a war that has displaced families in the Ukraine, disaster services are on the ground with resources and tools in the U.S. and throughout the world. Many service organizations recently deployed are serving folks who have been severely impacted by Hurricane Ian. Sandi Froese, Chair, International Service compiled a list of non-profit service agencies. Several of these have been provided funds by Collin County Rotary Club and individual members.

 Howard L. Templin, our 2022-23 District 5810 Governor is a 4th Dallas native. He married his wonderful wife Ellen in 1990. They have three adult daughters, Nicole Templin, Barbara Templin, and The Very Reverend Claire Makins. They have 2 grandsons, Cal and James Makins. Howard has Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Texas, Austin. After working as an architect and capital improvements project manager for over 47 years, he retired in July 2020 from being a Senior Project Manager on the University of Texas at Dallas campus.
Howard, a 4th generation Rotarian, has been a member of The Rotary Club of Dallas since 2009. He is Paul Harris Society and a Major Donor. He was president of the Rotary Club of Dallas, the 1st club in Texas, in 2017-18. Howard has served on the RCD Board of Directors, the Dallas Rotary Foundation Board, Chairman of the Membership committee, several committees, as well as participating in many of his club’s projects. He is a past District Membership Chairman, Assistant Governor, and a Lone Star PETS facilitator.

When Collin County Rotary Club was chartered on May 11, 2021, most of the club members were new to Rotary. Although the club segued from McKinney Sunset Rotary Club, a satellite of the Rotary Club of McKinney Sunrise, the former members knew very little about the connection to Rotary International global projects. The emphasis for volunteering and donations was on local community service projects during the first year. However, Rotary is also dedicated to causes that build international relationships, improve lives, and create a better world to create peace efforts and end polio forever. The 2022-23 international services plan includes information about selected non-profit global organizations that address the seven areas of humanitarian service, which are: Promoting Peace; Fighting Disease; Providing Clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene; Saving Mothers and Children; Supporting Education; Growing Local Economies; and Protecting the Environment. Each non-profit organization has an online link with information about their work and a button for an online voluntary donation with a credit card.

A highlight at the Collin County Rotary Club Awards Dinner on June 25, 2022, was the recognition of Danyail Sanders as the 2021-22 Rotarian-of-the-Year! Danyail was presented this honor by Outgoing President Lenda Fidelman. Danyail was recognized for her service as the “We Care Chair.” 
Not only did Danyail recognize members on their birthdays, sent flowers to those who were ill or had a death in the family, she also prepared meals or provided transportation for those in need, served on the Flag Committee, and collected clothing and supplies for the homeless. Always willing and cheerful, she exemplifies the ideals of “Service above Self.” She has accepted the position as Club Secretary for 2022-23. Congratulations, Danyail! Our Flag Team members go to work helping to deliver U.S. Flags to the flag-lease customers of Sunrise Rotary Club in McKinney. We are happy to assist by either working the flag shed and loading flags or delivering and installing flags on a route, like this one. It's all Service Above Self.  
For more info on the Flag-Lease program: It takes a crew of club members and their friends to clean up and beautify the landscaping around Ovation Academy, a unique School of Performing Arts in McKinney. This non-profit academy provides onsite training in the disciplines of Dance, Acting, Musical Theatre and Theatrical Production & Design as well as the business of being a professional artist and the life-skills needed to succeed in the industry. Here students are trained to be highly technical artists with a sense of community and humility. Philanthropy and Community Outreach are central themes at Ovation Academy. Through their talents students strive to make a difference in the community by giving back and helping those around us. We just enjoy helping out where we can, and on this Saturday morning, it was landscaping. Service Above Self, the Rotary way. Challenge Air provides a once-in-a-lifetime experience to kids with special needs between the ages of 7-21 through the gift of co-piloting an aircraft. This experience is offered at no cost to the kids and their families. Our club did our part to help more than 65 children and parents experience flight. One of the pilots was Tony Watson, Rotarian and friend from Midlothian. Loaders were assigned to help each person get safely onboard and hooked up to headphones. After the 20 minute roundtrip flight from McKinney National Airport, the special needs person received a set of wings from the pilot and then they walked the red carpet to a rousing cheer. Warrior’s Keep is a non-profit organization that provides mental health services in the form of outdoor adventures for military veterans. There is no charge for their services; however, for those who want to sponsor one participant, the cost is $500. The Warrior’s Keep's mission is to unite, empower and enhance the quality of life for veterans with the use of Outdoor Therapy. We at The Warrior's Keep believe that sometimes the best medicine is nature's medicine. Our programs provide Veterans with free access to outdoor activities, designed to educate and assist with the difficulties of reintegrating back to civilian life. https://www.thewarriorskeep.org/

Giving back is what we do! Collin County Rotary Club partnered with Love Life Foundation, Maylee Thomas-Fuller and McKinney Mayor George Fuller, for the second year in a row to give substantial donations to six not-for-profit organizations on North Texas Giving Day. The donations were made strategically in order to receive matching donations for each of the six not-for-profits.
The club presented a check for $5,000 to Streetside Showers, a wonderful group that offers support to our homeless community including showers, clothes, and food. Hope Clinic also received a check for $5,000. Hope Clinic provides free medical, vision and behavioral health services for low-income uninsured families in the community. Boys & Girls Clubs of Collin County accepted a check for $2,500. BGCCC serves the youth of Frisco, McKinney, and Plano by providing after school, virtual, and summer programs, and athletics. There were also checks of $1,000 each donated to Shiloh Place, Embrace Texas, and Meals on Wheels. In total there was $15,500 donated and matched!
Collin County Rotary Club is a service organization that strives to make positive changes in their community and worldwide. The club includes a diverse group of individuals who come together to do fundraising for not-for-profits and provide hands on service to organizations who need physical support.

 When Benita Sharpe joined McKinney Sunset Rotary Club in October 2018, little did she know that she would become the Charter President for the Rotary Club of Collin County, Texas USA. However, with Benita’s leadership skills, dynamic personality and work experience as a small business owner and a representative with State Farm Insurance, she was a natural for the position. Benita is the owner of B Sharpe Image Consultants, where she sells Mary Kay beauty products and other resources for women to feel good about themselves. Benita is especially good at “selling” empowerment and helping people reach their full potential.
